Scott Salsman, Vocal Music Instructor and Choir Director

Scott Salsman has been sharing his passion for vocal music on stage throughout his life, mastering a diverse range of styles from classical to contemporary. His vocal training includes instruction from renowned professional teachers spanning from childhood through collegiate studies and beyond. Scott's performance experience encompasses university vocal recitals, musical theater lead roles, gospel quartet performances, leading worship for children and adults, and rock band frontman work. As an educator, Scott has successfully taught children's choirs and directed theatrical productions. His approach combines technical excellence with creative expression, helping students discover their unique voice while building confidence through performance. Scott's versatile background allows him to connect with singers across various musical interests and experience levels, making him an engaging and adaptable instructor for community programs.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW 


Scott Salsman, experienced vocal instructor and choir director, has a comprehensive vocal music program at the MACC serving community members of all ages. The program features small group instruction and community choirs, culminating in regular performances to showcase student achievements. 


GROUP VOCAL INSTRUCTION 


Student Age Groups 

  • Voice Preschool & Kindergarten (ages 4-6) 

  • Voice Elementary (grades 1-4) 

  • Voice Middle School (grades 5-8) 

  • Voice High School (grades 9-12) 

  • Voice Adults (18+, all experience levels)

  • Musical Theater Performance 

  • Contemporary Pop/Rock Vocals 

  • Sight Reading & Music Theory 

  • Performance Preparation 


Lesson Format & Rates 

  • Group Lessons: $20 per student for 30 minutes 

  • Instructor will ask students (or their parents) to purchase sheet music chosen by the instructor 

  • Term enrollment recommended for optimal progress and performance inclusion 


Recitals & Showcases 


  • End-of-term recitals scheduled each season (Fall, Spring) 

  • Themed showcases featuring multiple student groups 

  • Community-wide invitation to attend all performances 

  • Professional production quality with appropriate accompaniment 

  • $10 fee for participants (may be higher if an accompanist agrees to participate) 


Attendance Policy 


  • 24-hour notice requested for cancellations when possible 

  • Performance participation determined by student preparedness and instructor recommendation 


COMMUNITY CHOIRS 

Ensemble Offerings 

  • Treble Voices (grades 1-3): Focus on fundamentals and joy of singing 

  • Youth Choir (grades 4-6): Developing musicianship and part-singing 

  • Boys Choir (ages 8-13): Specialized repertoire for young male voices  

  • Adult Vocal Ensembles: Smaller groups focusing on specific genres 

  • Community Chorus: Open to all interested community members 


Rehearsal & Performance Schedule  

  • Weekly one-hour rehearsals at consistent times 

  • 8-12 week seasons culminating in public performances 

  • Seasonal concerts plus community event performances 

  • Detailed rehearsal/performance calendar provided at registration 


Membership Fees 

  • Standard Rate: $150 per ensemble member per season 

  • Family Discount: $125 per person for households with multiple participants 

  • Fees cover all rehearsals, music materials, and performances 


Participation Requirements 

  • Minimum attendance of 75% of rehearsals required for performance participation Commitment to practice between rehearsals strongly encouraged 

  • No audition required for most ensembles; placement based on age/experience
