Classes
Contemporary Dance 1 and 2
I’m nineteen and have been dancing for nearly seventeen years. I began as a competition dancer before shifting to Vaganova ballet training at age ten and starting pointe soon after. I later trained at Ballet Tennessee and then Chattanooga Ballet.
Alongside studio training, I attended the Chattanooga Center for Creative Arts from sixth through twelfth grade, studying contemporary, jazz, tap, modern, and ballet while developing my choreography skills. In 2023, I performed as Princess Aurora in CCA’s Sleeping Beauty and served as head of the Senior Showcase, choreographing multiple works. I’ve also trained at Joffrey Ballet Chicago and Milwaukee Ballet Summer Intensives.
Class Descriptions: My contemporary style is a cross between modern and ballet. My contemporary is also very emotion-based and I encourage students to bring their outside feelings and use them to fuel the way they dance in class. Intent and focus are both very important to me. I applaud questions, but will ask students to keep unrelated conversations to themselves until after class.
Contemporary 1 (8-11): An introduction to contemporary and beginner phrases/choreography. Students will focus on utilizing plié to become grounded and comfortable with steps different from ballet. The students will also begin playing with improvisation and basic partner work such as weight-sharing.
Contemporary 2 (12+): This class leans more towards intermediate/advanced skills. Fundamentals will be worked at the beginning of the semester, but students will progress faster than Contemporary 1. They will become comfortable with floor work and shared improvisation by the end of the semester. They will also be able to demonstrate an adequate understanding of choreography and non-ballet movement.
