THE "GOLDEN AGE OF RADIO" COMES TO SIGNAL MOUNTAIN On Halloween night, Thursday, October 31, 2019, the MACC, the home of "radio station" WMAC, invites you to take a stroll down memory lane for a nostalgic return to the Golden Age of Radio. Two of that era's classic thrillers will be re-created: "Sorry Wrong Number" by Lucille Fletcher and Orson Welles' famous Mercury Theater's presentation of "War of the Worlds" (the broadcast that purportedly caused panic throughout our country when it was first presented in 1938). There is a primary part for the radio show MC Sorry Wrong Number has 4 Men's and 8 Women's roles War of the Worlds has 21 Men's roles There are no children's parts Bring a photo Audition will be a cold reading of section of script In radio, the voice not appearance, takes center stage. Cast must have excellent reading ability. Rehearsals will be on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
Auditions will be at the Mountain Arts Community Center, at 809 Kentucky Ave., Signal Mountain, TN. 423-886-1959 Auditions will be Wednesday and Thursday, Aug 28 & 29, from 6:30-8:00.
September 14th is the 2nd annual "Signal’s Got Talent” at the SM Playhouse outdoor theater from 6:30-9:00.. Come hear your neighbors as they share their talents with us. Sponsored by the SME Preservation Fund.
On October 5th, the MACC will host a Raku Firing on the side lawn. We’ll be celebrating Tennessee Crafter’s Month. Other crafters will have their works on display, and for sale. The MACC is partnering with Scenic City Clay and the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development. Times and details are TBA.
October 19th, the SMEPF Coffeehouse Concert will feature Toby Hewitt! The $15 admission fee includes coffee and desserts.
October 31st will see the debut of “WMAC – Live Classic Radio Shows”. The first performance, at 7:00 PM, will contain two radio classics, “Sorry, Wrong Number” and “War of the Worlds”. Join us every 2 months in a classic radio show revival. Performed before a live audience, the cast will perform as if they are inside a radio studio, complete with musicians and sound effects. Performances are free to the public, and we will pass the hat for donations to continue improvements for the building.
Save the date: The Town Tree Lighting will take place on Saturday, December 7th. We will have the usual kids crafts, performances by local school and church groups, shopping available with local vendors, and of course, Santa!
