JUNE ARTIST
June Artist of the Month is Signal Mountain's own Bob McElhaney, Wood Artist!  His opening reception will be Friday, June 2, from 5:00-7:00 pm and is open to the public.  Refreshments will be available, as will the artist!  The exhibit runs from June 2 - June 30.

Bob was born and raised in Chattanooga, TN.  He has worked in the construction industry for over 38 years as a Carpenter, Estimator, Superintendent, and Project Manager.

After retirement, Bob and his wife, Lucy, moved to Alexian Village where he learned the art of woodturning.  He joined the Tri-State Woodturner's Association, and then the American Association of Woodturners.  The past 8 years he has sought out rare and unusual wood to use in his wood art creations.  He experiments with various shapes and sizes that reveal the uniqueness of the inner grain, spalting, natural defects and character of the wood.
The source of many of his creations is discarded chunks of wood found on the side of the road.  He slowly TRANSFORMS each piece to reveal its hidden inner beauty.

Gallery 5 Artists And Events

Gallery 5
is a proud participant in "First Friday Arts", a collaborative effort between FLAG, AVA and galleries and studios in the Chattanooga area to promote attendance through special exhibits and other special events on the first Friday of each month.

Gallery 5,  dedicated art gallery space at the Mountain Arts Community Center (MACC) on Signal Mountain, formally opened Saturday, June 14, 2014 with a public reception from 5 to 7 p.m.  The gallery debuted by showcasing the best works from students of MACC painting and pottery classes led by Val Gibson (painting) and Lolly Durant (pottery).   The student exhibition continued until July 12. Admission was free.  The Gallery is open during MACC hours.  (M-Th  9-8, Fri  9-4).

Looking forward, Gallery 5 plans to offer juried exhibitions of works by professional and semi-professional artists and to host a yearly exhibit of work done by local high school students.

The Mountain Arts Community Center is a refurbished and repurposed historic school building owned and operated by the Town of Signal Mountain, Tennessee. It is dedicated to visual, musical and theatre arts and programs for both children and adults.   The MACC is located at 809 Kentucky Avenue, Signal Mountain.

For more information, interested artists and patrons should contact the MACC office at 886-1959, or Valerie Gibson at 322-5676.  Or fill out the form below and we'll contact you!
