Learn the basics of pottery. Projects will include pinch, coil, slab techniques, and learning to center clay on the potter's wheel. Students will make cylinders and bowls. All clay works will be bisque fired and glaze fired. Vessels will be safe for food usage.

Session 1: Amusement Parks Jan. 23 – March 6 Even though it’s cold outside, we’re getting ready for summer fun at Amusement Parks! Lessons incorporate principles of physics, described in a way children can understand, such as “G-force” inertia and momentum, as well as math concepts such as “there are 360 degrees in a circle”. These engaging lessons will give students an understanding of the physical forces they experience every day. Session 2: Mining & Crafting March 27 - May 1 Experience the world of Minecraft® with LEGO® bricks! Make your own motorized models of tools of the game, like the hand-held power drill and rock smashing jackhammer. Children will also learn about and build critters and other key elements from the game using motorized Technic LEGO® bricks. Cost: $80 ($65 for MACC Members) per session. Computer Explorers Minecraft Resource Packs & Mods Session 1 Jan. 17 - March 14 (9 classes) Ages 7 - 11 4:15 - 5:15 PM Join us for some Minecraft fun as we explore shader packs, resource packs, and mods! Students will see what mods can do to enhance their Minecraft experience, and gain an understanding of the nature and purpose of resource packs and shader packs as they audition multiple examples of each. They will be challenged to demonstrate their creativity while learning to create their own custom Minecraft resource pack. Students will use their imaginations as they utilize the Not Enough Items and Bibliocraft mods simultaneously to build and furnish a multi-room structure. Finally, they will explore the tools that have them riding dragons to find buried treasure in the Animal Bikes Mod! Cost: $145 (MACC members $130). April 4 - May 16 (7 classes) Ages 7 - 11 4:15 - 5:15 PM Minecrafters know that the world is only limited by their imaginations and the mods they use. Students will explore the tools that have them mining topaz and sapphire ores as they explore the tropical rain forest and coral reef biomes, customizing non-player characters, building rockets to the moon and using a grapple to travel through the asteroids. New Class INTRO TO PYTHON -NOW AVAILABLE TO ADULTS Begins Mon., Jan. 9 Instructor: Dan Mailman (Art 120 Teacher) Ages: 14 through ADULT 3 Wk. Classes Mondays 4:00 - 6:00 PM C/C++: Intro to Programming (Jan. 9, 16 & 23) A great introduction to C/C++ and to programming concepts in general if you want to move on to another language! Using Microsoft’s Visual Studio on Windows PCs, we'll write several programs to illustrate user interaction, file processing, error management, data representation, and program control flow. Bring a Windows 10 PC with wireless networking capability or Visual Studio Installed. Raspberry Pi Python 1 (Jan. 30, Feb. 6 & 13) AGES 14 through ADULT The Raspberry PI version of the first course in Studio MindStride’s 'Think Like a Computer Scientist' series. A great introduction to Python and to programming concepts in general if you want to move on to another language. Bring a Raspberry PI, 5V micro USB power supply, Micro USB Power Cable (a build-in on/off switch is recommended), SD Card, USB Mouse, Keyboard, HDMI Monitor and Cable, USB SD Card Reader. Raspberry Pi Python 2 (Feb. 20, 27, & Mar. 6) The Raspberry PI version of the second course in Studio MindStride’s ‘Think Like a Computer Scientist’ series. Learn several new techniques for making programs faster, smaller, and more maintainable. Requirements: Bring your Raspberry Pi and supplies from Raspberry Pi Python I. Prerequisites: Raspberry Pi Python I Raspberry Python Vision Basics (Mar. 13, 27 & Apr. 3) Install the OpenCV Computer Vision Library on the Raspberry Pi and use it to write Python programs that recognize color, recognize objects, and track objects using the Raspberry Pi Camera Module. Requirements: Bring your Raspberry Pi and supplies from Raspberry Pi Python I. Prerequisites: Raspberry Pi Python I Python GUI & OOP (Apr. 10, 17 & 24) This is an introduction to graphical user interfaces (GUIs) as well as event-based and object-oriented programming. In continuing to learn to "think like a programmer", we will introduce the following topics: Widgets, Geometry Management, Events and Event Loops, Callback Handlers, Objects, and Classes. You must bring a computer with Python installed and working. Python I on Macs or PCs (May 1, 8 & 15) This is the first course in Studio MindStride’s 'Think Like a Computer Scientist' series. It's a great introduction to Python and to programming concepts in general if you want to move on to another language. We'll install and use Python and IDLE, Python.org's beginning Interactive Development Environment. With IDLE, Wiprograms as a model, you'll be on your way to writing your own programs.
